Some Of My Favorite Electronic Instruments

If I had money, I would 1000% buy all these instruments and make the funkiest electronic music known to man. Here are a few of my favorite doohickies, and I’m sure you’ll love them too!

Suzuki Omnichord

This is such a neat instrument if I am being ever so honest. It sounds so cool, too?! Here‘s what the chords sound like. The dark bar in the middle of the instrument is a strum plate, so you can strum notes together, and it sounds so beautiful! You can listen to it here.

The Omnichord has been around for a really long time and has actually gotten a new model this year! And it’s only going for the low, low price of…$800. Yikes.

Here‘s a video of someone playing an Omnichord!

Korg Minilogue XD

I was actually looking into this synthesizer for a while! I went to see it at a music store a few months ago before it went out of business and it was really neat! I wish I would’ve gotten more time to mess around with it because I was afraid of being too loud and disturbing other customers LOL. Almost $700…why must these lovely things be so expensive??

Polyend Play

This looks like a dream to play around with…so many buttons!! I think this is similar to a Blipblox myTRACKS in the sense that it’s a groovebox. It’s fully MIDI capable and everything, and costs $500. That makes a bit more sense to me.

Moog Theremini

OoOOooOoooOoO!!! Spoooooky sounds!! When I was checking out that Korg Minilogue in the music store, there was some sort of theremin set up and I really had to resist the urge to ask if I could play around with it. Theremins have been a long-time favorite instrument of mine. They are just so neat…this is the one I saw in-store and it costs $400…are they TRYING to make me broke?!!?!

Hammond Organ

I…I’m not even going to put a price listing for this thing because it’s in the ten thousands and heaven knows I will not have that money just laying around. But the Hammond Organ is so dang cool!!! I’d love to just play around with it someday. I bet Mark Mothersbaugh has one laying around. Literally such an iconic instrument.

Minimoog

That wood paneling has me like…(heart eyes). And all those knobs and dials. I wouldn’t know what half of them do, but I’m sure whatever they do makes super funky sounds! It’s such a classic analog synth, and again, I’d love to play around with it. It’s like $4,000 so I’ll just admire from a distance! Thank you Robert Moog for inventing music.

Elektron Model:Samples

I am just all about these grooveboxes! This is a sample-based groovebox, which means it runs on sampled sounds or instruments which you can manipulate as you wish. At this rate, I’m going to need a huge table to set up all my synths and connect them to my computer! As with most synths and grooveboxes nowadays, this is MIDI compatible. It’s $300, which isn’t too shabby, since it seems like there’s a lot packed under the hood!

Elektron Model:Cycles

Another Elektron groovebox, this one instead is FM-based, meaning it runs on modulating the frequency of oscillators, which are the raw sounds from a synthesizer. These waveforms include square waves, saw waves, triangle waves, and sine waves. This one is soooo cool, one of my favorite musicians uses this and it seems like so much fun! This groovebox is also $300.

Behringer TD-3

WHEN THE TECH IS COLORFUL AND SEE-THROUGH…YUMMY…this here is a synth for making basslines! Behringer makes some really nice sort of Roland “dupes” I guess you could call them? I guess they’re more replicas. They made a Roland TR-808 replica, check it out here! This synth is around $130, which is very fair. I think Behringer is also known for their budget synths.

Arturia MiniFreak

WHOA. THIS THING IS INSANE. I totally forgot about Arturia synths for a hot second–this synth packs quite a punch! It has 23 different oscillator types! I didn’t even know there were that many to begin with. It makes such big, punchy classic sounds, I cannot resist…if I’m being honest, $649 for that seems pretty fair? I need to get my hands on this! Absolutely life-changing.
