BandLab is how I got started with making music digitally! I started when I was around 12, and I would just pick and choose lo-fi loops and samples to make very simple, somewhat boring songs. I’ve tried to revisit it, but I find it can be a little finicky and hard to find loops that sound good together and are the same BPM. That might just be a skill issue on my part, but even so, it’s fun to play around on there!
I know of an artist who makes similar music to me that just uses BandLab, and the stuff is really fun to listen to!! So it definitely can be done, it’s just not my first choice. I prefer the hands-on feel when making music, and this just feels like…plopping random samples in succession. I’m sure you can make good stuff, but it’s just not my jam, I dunno!
Either way, it’s free to use and a great way to get started with making electronic music, or any music for that matter!
