Here’s a really great beginner synthesizer, the Blipblox. I have the After Dark model, and it’s the coolest thing ever! It uses oscillators and modulators with a bunch of premade samples to play around with. I’ve yet to actually hook it up to my computer to play with, but I love just sitting on my bed and jamming out with this doohickey! It’s about $200, and has the following features, according to their website:
- 5-pin MIDI input to connect a keyboard, drum machine or DAW
- 1/4″ Audio Output jack.
- Adjustable controls to limit volume and lights for sensitive users.
- Built-in speaker.
- Easy to replace AA batteries (included) for portable play.
- Universal USB power adapter cable (included) for studio or stage.
Another product from this company I’m waiting to receive is the Blipblox myTRACKS, a groovebox with all sorts of features! You can record samples, and it comes with drum lines, tons of built-in sequences, and 48 upgradable instruments. There’s so much more to it, too! I’m so excited for this one to come; I think it’ll be here in November? It’s $349 and has the following features, according to their website:
- 5-pin MIDI OUT to control thousands of electronic instruments, including all 3 Blipblox synthesizers. Instantly add external synthesizers to your mix.
- Use MIDI In and Out over USB-C to interface with DAWs, such as Logic and Ableton Live.
- ⅛” stereo audio output for external speakers, or recording.
I’ll do an update post once I actually get the myTRACKS and I’ll share my thoughts! Thanks for reading!! ^_^
